A map is only as right as the people who check it.

IntMap draws 166 layers and historical borders back to 123,000 BC. Automated checks catch broken shapes; they cannot tell whether a province existed in a given year or a town has the right name. Readers who know a place can. Here is what they told us, and what we did.

How to report an error

  1. Point at it

In the map, right-click (or long-press) the place and choose «Report a map error», or use the button at the bottom of a place profile card. You can also ask Atlas.

  2. Say what is wrong

Choose the kind of error and the layer, write what it should be, and give a source if you have one. The point, the map view and, on a historical map, the year are attached for you.

  3. Get the answer

No e-mail or account is needed. A receipt stays on your device, and the answer appears in Settings ▸ My map reports and on this page under «Your reports».

How a report is checked

Opened as you saw it

Each report carries the exact view it was made in — layers, year and position — so it is judged on the map you saw, not on a reconstruction.

History is checked as history

A report about a historical year is checked against when the unit was created and abolished, not only against what a data source says — a source can be wrong too.

Fixed at the cause

When a report is right, the rule that produced the error is fixed, so the same kind of mistake elsewhere is fixed with it — not only the one place reported.

Your reports

Reports sent from this browser, read with the receipts it keeps. Nothing is shown to anyone else.

Published corrections

Each entry is the operator's own summary, published with the answer. The reporter's name and words are never shown here.
